BJP to Announce New National President by Mid-March, Woman Leader from South Likely
New Delhi, March 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to announce its new national president by mid-March, likely on the 15th or 16th, following the completion of organizational elections in over 13 states. Party sources indicate that the decision on JP Nadda’s successor will be made through internal consensus, a process the BJP has traditionally followed to ensure unity within its ranks.
A senior BJP functionary has hinted that the party is considering appointing a woman leader to the top post, most likely from South India, to strengthen its organizational presence and connect with voters in the region. Among the frontrunners for the position are Andhra Pradesh BJP chief Daggubati Purandeshwari and BJP Mahila Morcha national president and Coimbatore MLA Vanathi Srinivasan.
Purandeshwari Among Top Contenders
Daggubati Purandeshwari, 66, has emerged as a strong contender. A former Congress leader who joined the BJP in 2014, she brings significant experience in organizational affairs. Currently serving as the BJP chief in Andhra Pradesh, she is recognized for her articulate leadership and deep political acumen. She is also known as the “Sushma Swaraj of the South” for her exceptional oratory skills and fluency in five languages, which has earned her wide acceptance within the party.
Strategic Move for Southern Expansion
If the BJP appoints a woman from the South, it will be seen as a strategic move to expand its influence in the region, where it has been working to strengthen its base. The decision will also factor in regional representation, caste dynamics, and upcoming electoral challenges, aligning with the BJP’s broader political strategy.
The selection of the new BJP president will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s direction ahead of the upcoming state elections and the 2029 General Elections. More details are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
