Air India Flight from Trichy to Sharjah Lands Safely After Hydraulic Failure

Trichy, 11 October – In a tense mid-air emergency, an Air India Express flight from Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) to Sharjah successfully landed at Trichy Airport after experiencing a hydraulic failure. The IX613 flight, which had 144 passengers and crew members on board, faced a technical issue that prompted the pilots to remain in the airspace, circling to burn off excess fuel before attempting an emergency landing.

The hydraulic failure impacted critical systems, particularly the landing gear, but the flight crew managed to bring the aircraft down safely. Airport authorities took no chances, with more than 20 ambulances and fire tenders stationed at Trichy Airport to ensure a swift response in case of any accident.

According to the Airport Director, the emergency response was robust and coordinated. “We had over 18 fire trucks and more than 20 ambulances on standby to prevent any major accident. Thanks to the skillful piloting, the plane landed safely, and there were no injuries,” he said.

As the aircraft circled overhead to reduce fuel weight and minimize the risk of fire during the landing, air traffic control and emergency teams remained on high alert. The landing, described as a ‘hard landing’ or ‘belly landing,’ was executed with precision, avoiding further complications despite the malfunction in the hydraulic system.

Hydraulic failures can affect key systems such as landing gear, brakes, and control surfaces, but Air India Express reassured that the incident was handled as per safety protocols. The aircraft is currently undergoing inspection to determine the cause of the malfunction.

The emergency response at #TrichyAirport was swift and efficient, underscoring the importance of preparedness in handling critical situations. All 144 passengers and crew disembarked safely after the ordeal.

This incident serves as a reminder of the complexities of air travel and the importance of rigorous safety measures. For now, Air India Express is working to rebook passengers on alternative flights to their destination in Sharjah.
