Air India Flight AI171 Involved in Accident After Take-Off from Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, June 12, 2025 – In a concerning development, Air India confirmed today that its flight AI171, operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident shortly after take-off. The airline released the information via its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The flight, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, departed Ahmedabad at 13:38 IST, carrying a total of 242 passengers and crew members on board. Among them were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian national, and seven Portuguese nationals.

According to the airline’s statement, several individuals sustained injuries during the incident and have been transported to the nearest hospitals for treatment. The nature and severity of the accident, as well as the number of injured, have not yet been disclosed.

Air India has established a dedicated passenger hotline – 1800 5691 444 – to assist families and loved ones of those onboard. The airline has explicitly requested media personnel not to use this number to avoid congestion and ensure timely assistance for those directly affected.

“Air India is giving its full cooperation to the authorities investigating this incident,” the airline said in its official statement. Further updates will be shared via its X account @airindia and the official website airindia.com.

As investigations are underway, authorities are working to determine the cause of the accident. Emergency protocols were reportedly activated immediately after the incident.
