Accident on Newly Inaugurated Port Link Road Raises Safety Concerns

Mormugao, February 9: A road accident occurred this morning on the newly inaugurated Port Link Connectivity Road, raising serious concerns about road safety. This newly constructed road, funded jointly by the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA), National Highway Authority, and the Goa Government, was built to provide direct connectivity from Verna to the Mormugao Port.

The Port Link Road has been at the center of controversy after the MPA installed gates at the upramp and downramp at Baina, restricting access. This move angered local residents, prompting Mormugao MLAs Sankalp Amonkar and Krishna Salkar to approach Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for intervention.

Safety Concerns Highlighted After Accident

Following today’s accident, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Adv. Sunil Loran has raised concerns about the safety and accessibility of the road. Speaking to www.newsbabaonline.com, he demanded immediate action to ensure the well-being of citizens.

Safety Audit: Adv. Loran has urged authorities to conduct a thorough safety audit of the upramp and downramp at Baina. This would help identify potential hazards and implement necessary safety measures to prevent future accidents.

Permanent Public Access: He has also demanded a gazette notification ensuring permanent public access to the road. This would prevent the MPA from restricting access in the future, allowing free and uninterrupted movement for citizens.

“Public infrastructure should be accessible to all. Safety measures and clear policies are essential to prevent accidents and ensure citizens’ rights,” said Adv. Sunil Loran.

With growing concerns over road safety and accessibility, citizens now await swift action from the authorities.
