A Milestone for Goa’s Trade & Economy Mormugao Port Poised for Global Container Connectivity
Goa, June 16, 2025 — In a landmark development for Goa’s maritime trade, senior delegates from Ocean Network Express (ONE), Mumbai, visited the Delta Terminal at Mormugao Port to evaluate its infrastructure for container handling. This visit signals a crucial step toward integrating Goa into the global container shipping network and catalyzing economic growth in the region.
ONE, ranked 5th globally in container trade, operates a fleet of over 260 vessels with a combined capacity exceeding 2 million TEUs. The high-level delegation included:
- Mr. Masahiro Sakikubo, Managing Director
- Capt. Kuldeep Singh Chauhan, Director, Operations
- Mr. Apramapar, Director, Sales
- Mr. Subodh Mahabaleshwarkar, AGM, Sales
The delegation was warmly welcomed at the MPA (Mormugao Port Authority) office by Dr. N. Vinodkumar, Chairperson of MPA, along with senior officials from Delta Ports and Mormugao Terminal Pvt. Ltd.
Dr. Vinodkumar assured full support and the provision of incentives to facilitate container trade through the Delta Terminal, further highlighting the port’s commitment to becoming a key player in India’s maritime trade ecosystem.
Strategic Boost with SCI’s SMILE Service
In another promising development, Delta Ports is actively collaborating with Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) to bring Goa under the SMILE (Sci-Middle-East-India-Liner-Express) Service. This strategic addition will significantly reduce dependency on road transport for the movement of salt, industrial salt, tiles, bentonite, and manufactured goods.
With these advances, exporters and importers from Goa—especially MSMEs—stand to gain direct access to global markets at reduced logistics costs. The initiative is expected to strengthen regional trade, improve supply chain efficiency, and position Goa as a vibrant export hub.
