Bengaluru, March 1, 2024: A bustling afternoon at Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area turned tragic as an explosion rocked the popular eatery, leaving at least 10 people injured. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar confirmed the incident, while authorities swiftly initiated investigations into the shocking blast.
The incident occurred around 1 pm, precisely during the busy lunch hour when the cafe is typically filled with patrons from nearby offices. Initial reports suggested a possible gas leak, but Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dispelled those suspicions, revealing that an “improvised explosive” placed in a bag by an unidentified individual triggered the blast.
In a press statement, the Bengaluru city police informed that a case has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967 and the Explosives Substances Act. Seven teams from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) are actively probing the incident, according to Deputy CM Shivakumar, who visited the blast site this evening.
“The blast occurred at Rameshwaram Cafe. A young man of about 28-30 years came to the cafe, purchased Rava Idli at the counter, placed the bag near a tree (adjacent to the cafe), and left. After one hour, the blast occurred,” detailed Shivakumar during his visit.
Fortunately, the ten individuals injured in the blast, comprising both customers and cafe staff, are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. Officials have assured the public that their injuries are not life-threatening.
The cafe, located in east Bengaluru, is a popular spot for locals and office-goers alike. As investigations continue, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and the authorities are working tirelessly to gather more information about the incident.
The Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe blast has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting heightened security measures in the city. Further updates on the investigation will be provided as they become available.
