Ex-Goa MLA Lavoo Mamledar Dies After Altercation with Auto Driver in Belagavi

Former Goa MLA Lavoo Suryaji Mamledar, who represented the Ponda constituency from 2012 to 2017, passed away on Saturday afternoon following a physical altercation with an autorickshaw driver in Belagavi, Karnataka.
According to police reports, the 69-year-old had traveled to Belagavi and booked a suite at a hotel in Khade Bazar. While navigating a narrow road, his car allegedly brushed against an autorickshaw, leading to an argument between him and the driver. The auto driver reportedly demanded compensation for the damage, but Mamledar refused and proceeded towards his hotel.
However, the autorickshaw driver followed him to the hotel and allegedly assaulted him after he stepped out of his car. Mamledar collapsed on the premises shortly after the altercation. He was rushed to the government civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have detained the autorickshaw driver and launched an investigation into the incident. The cause of death is yet to be determined, and a post-mortem examination has been ordered.
Lavoo Mamledar was a former Goa Police officer before entering politics and was known for his strong opinions on law enforcement and governance. His sudden demise has shocked Goa’s political circles, with leaders from various parties expressing condolences.
CM Pramod Sawant Expresses Condolences
Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant expressed deep sorrow over Mamledar’s passing and assured a thorough investigation.

The State administration is in close coordination with the local authorities in Belagavi to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and to bring those responsible to justice.

Authorities in Belagavi have assured a thorough probe into the matter.
