NGO Niz Goenkar Fauz Files Complaint with Directorate of Municipal Administration Against MMC Vasco Chief Officer
Vasco, January 29, 2025 – The NGO Niz Goenkar Fauz (NGF) has escalated its complaint against Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Siddivinayak Naik by filing a formal grievance with the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA).
The complaint, submitted by NGF President Suresh Saji Naik, alleges that Chief Officer Naik refused to address their concerns, denied them an audience without prior appointment, and called security to remove him from the office. Naik’s alleged behavior has been termed as an “insult” to the NGO and a violation of public service ethics.
In his submission to the DMA, Naik highlighted that the Chief Officer holds a responsibility to engage with citizens and address their grievances, rather than dismissing them. He also referred to a past resolution by MMC, which reportedly aimed to restrict complaints from NGOs and social activists, a move that he claims shields violators and encroachers.
The NGF has demanded disciplinary action against Siddivinayak Naik and has urged the DMA to intervene immediately to ensure that municipal officials remain accessible to the public.
The Directorate of Municipal Administration is yet to respond to the complaint. Meanwhile, this development is expected to spark discussions on bureaucratic accountability and transparency in municipal governance.
In past a resolution was passed by the Mormugoa municipal council, which allegedly sought to discourage NGOs and activists from filing complaints, a move he believes was aimed at shielding encroachers and violators. He further alleged that the new Chief Officer was “brought in to serve the interests of his superiors” rather than to uphold transparency and accountability.
