Cricket Match Organized by Mamlatdar of Mormugao Taluka and AERO of 25 Vasco AC for Voter Awareness
Mormugao: In a unique initiative to promote voter awareness, the Office of the Mamlatdar of Mormugao Taluka and AERO of 25 Vasco Assembly Constituency organized a cricket match on 24th January 2025 at the SAG Ground, Bhute Bhat, Vasco. The match was played between the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of 25 Vasco Assembly Constituency and the staff of the Mamlatdar of Mormugao Taluka.
The event was part of the activities to commemorate National Voters Day (NVD), celebrated annually on 25th January. Adding excitement to the occasion, spot prizes were distributed to attendees who correctly answered questions related to election matters, further enhancing public engagement.
The cricket match saw spirited participation, with Shri Mohammad Shabbir, IAS, Deputy Collector and SDO II Salcete, and ERO of 25 Vasco AC, leading Team BLOs as the captain. On the other side, Shri Pravinjay Pandit, Mamlatdar of Mormugao Taluka and AERO of 25 Vasco AC, captained the Mamlatdar team.
After an exhilarating game, Team BLOs emerged victorious. The efforts and sportsmanship of both teams were appreciated, and medals adorned with the National Voters Day logo were distributed by Shri Bhagwant Karmali, Deputy Collector and SDO Mormugao, to all participants. A trophy was also presented to the winning team.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Mohammad Shabbir, IAS, Deputy Collector and SDO II Salcete, emphasized the importance of such campaigns in encouraging voter participation, especially among first-time voters. He remarked, “The awareness campaign is essential for new voters as well as for creating a broader understanding among all voters about the importance of elections.”
Shri Pravinjay Pandit, Mamlatdar of Mormugao Taluka, expressed his enthusiasm for the campaign and praised his team for their innovative efforts in organizing the cricket match, a first-of-its-kind voter awareness initiative in the South Goa district. He added, “The launch of the voter app is another significant step forward, providing immense benefits to both existing and new voters.”
This event successfully combined sports and civic awareness, emphasizing the importance of voter participation. It served as a reminder to the public about the power of voting in strengthening democracy.
