PM Modi Inaugurates Phases 2 and 3 of Varanasi Sports Complex Redevelopment

Varanasi, October 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly completed Phases 2 and 3 of the Varanasi Sports Complex redevelopment, a major initiative under the Khelo India scheme and the Smart Cities Mission. With a total investment exceeding ₹210 crore, the project is poised to enhance urban infrastructure, promote grassroots sports, and generate employment opportunities for local youth.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering sports excellence alongside urban development. “The Khelo India initiative is not just about medals; it is about creating a culture of fitness and nurturing young talent from every corner of the country,” he stated.

The redeveloped sports complex now offers world-class facilities, including multi-sport arenas, athletics tracks, swimming pools, and indoor training centers. These amenities are designed to cater to both emerging athletes and the community, encouraging sports participation at all levels.

The Varanasi Sports Complex is aligned with the goals of the Smart Cities Mission by integrating sustainable infrastructure and modern technologies. The redevelopment focuses not only on providing sports facilities but also on improving public spaces and amenities to enhance the overall urban environment.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, along with local authorities and representatives from the Sports Authority of India, lauded the project’s completion. They expressed confidence that the initiative would inspire more youth from Varanasi and nearby areas to pursue professional sports, contributing to India’s growing success on the global stage.

The project has already created numerous jobs during the construction phases, with many more expected in operations, coaching, and event management. Local entrepreneurs and vendors will also benefit from the influx of sports enthusiasts and events in the region.

With this inauguration, Varanasi is set to emerge as a hub for sporting talent and community engagement, contributing to India’s broader vision of fostering a culture of physical fitness and sports excellence.
