Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today held an interactive session with women entrepreneurs participating in the Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) in the presence of Rural Development Minister Shri Govind Gaude and other officials. During the meeting, Dr. Sawant expressed satisfaction with the program’s progress, noting that 1,693 Self-Help Group (SHG) members have been supported through Community Enterprise Funds (CEF) under SVEP, boosting women-led businesses in Goa.
Dr. Sawant emphasized the immense potential for SHGs to expand their operations in areas such as community farming, poultry farming, and other sectors by availing of the schemes initiated by both the Union and State governments. He urged the women entrepreneurs and SHGs to aim for producing at least 50% of the items required within the state, aligning with the “Swayampurna Goa” vision, while simultaneously enhancing their incomes.
“I am delighted to listen to the inspiring entrepreneurial journeys of these women. The Goa government remains fully committed to supporting them through various initiatives, including the Goa State Rural Livelihood Mission, the Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Program, and the Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana,” Dr. Sawant remarked.
The Chief Minister further reiterated his government’s goal of creating a record number of “Lakhpati Didis” (women earning over a lakh rupees) in the state, through continued support and empowerment initiatives for women entrepreneurs. He assured that the government would provide all necessary assistance to help SHGs scale their businesses and contribute significantly to Goa’s economy.
