International Sex Trafficking Racket Busted by Mandrem Police with Assistance from ARZ NGO
An international sex trafficking ring operating between Uganda and India has been dismantled due to the collaborative efforts of the Mandrem Police, led by SDPO Jivba Dalvi, and the ARZ NGO.
According to SP North Shri Akshat Kaushal, economically disadvantaged young single mothers from Uganda were lured with false promises of employment in restaurants and cafes in Goa. Upon their arrival in India, the traffickers seized their passports and visas, threatening the women with violence and forcing them into prostitution under the burden of significant debt.
This illicit operation, orchestrated by a close-knit group involving the trafficker Jojo Nakintu, predominantly leveraged escort websites to solicit clients and also operated offline, with traffickers standing on the beaches and roads of Arambol.
The breakthrough came when one of the victims managed to contact her embassy. With the embassy’s assistance and support, the Goa police were able to locate the victims. The Mandrem Police Inspector and ARZ NGO then conducted a challenging search operation, during which they rescued two Ugandan victims and arrested Jojo Nakintu.
The arrested individual, identified as Ms. Jojo Nakintu, 31, a Ugandan national, has been charged under sections 370 of the IPC and sections 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. The rescued women have been placed in a protective home in Merces.
Further investigation is underway, led by PI Mandrem PS Sheriff Jaques, under the supervision of SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi and SP North Akshat Kaushal IPS. This successful operation highlights the critical role of international collaboration and community support in combating human trafficking.
