64 CPI (Maoist) Members Surrender in Telangana, Total Surrenders Reach 122 in Two Months
Hyderabad: In a significant development, 64 members of the banned CPI (Maoist) party have voluntarily surrendered before Inspector General of Police, Multi Zone-I Chandrasekhar Reddy, and Bhadradri Kothagudem District Superintendent of Police, Rohit Raj.
This mass surrender marks a continued trend of Maoists choosing to return to the mainstream, with the total number of surrenders in the last two months rising to 122. The police have attributed this to intensified efforts in anti-Maoist operations, coupled with rehabilitation initiatives encouraging militants to abandon the movement.
Speaking on the occasion, IG Chandrasekhar Reddy emphasized that the government is committed to providing a secure future for those who renounce violence. The police have assured proper rehabilitation and assistance for those who surrender, aligning with state policies aimed at reintegrating former Maoists into society.
The Bhadradri Kothagudem region, which shares a border with Maoist-affected areas of Chhattisgarh, has been a stronghold for CPI (Maoist) cadres. However, continuous police operations and developmental initiatives have played a crucial role in weakening the extremist movement.
Authorities have urged remaining Maoist members to surrender and take advantage of the rehabilitation schemes offered by the state. The mass surrender is being seen as a major success for Telangana’s anti-Maoist strategy and a step towards peace in the region.
