Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Addresses Concluding Event of #ProjectAbhay in New Delhi

New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, addressed the concluding event of Project Abhay, an initiative spearheaded by the Centre for Rural Development and Technology, in New Delhi. The program aims to promote road safety awareness and reduce the alarming number of accidents across the country.

Highlighting the critical issue of road safety, Mr. Gadkari revealed that India witnessed nearly 5 lakh road accidents in 2024, resulting in a tragic loss of 1.80 lakh lives. Stressing the urgency to address this crisis, he called for collective efforts from all stakeholders to ensure safer roads for citizens.

“Road accidents are a significant cause of death and injuries in our country. We need innovative solutions, stricter enforcement of laws, and greater public awareness to tackle this challenge,” he emphasized during his address.

The Union Minister also praised Project Abhay for its focus on enhancing road safety in rural areas, where infrastructure and awareness often lag behind urban regions. He urged institutions, private sectors, and citizens to collaborate with the government to achieve the target of reducing road fatalities by 50% in the coming years.

The event witnessed participation from policymakers, researchers, and NGOs, with discussions focusing on implementing advanced technologies, improving road designs, and educating communities about traffic rules and first-aid measures.

The successful conclusion of Project Abhay underlines the importance of sustained efforts to create a safer and more responsible road culture across India.
